The Lister Arms is one of the most striking buildings in Malham, standing three storeys tall at the top of the village overlooking a small green. Our ivy-clad Grade II listed former coaching inn was built in 1723 and is named after the Lister family, prominent landowners who lived at Gisburne Park 12 miles away.
We don’t know why there’s a wine glass carved into the date stone above the door, but we’re guessing it was an invitation to relax as soon as you stepped over the threshold. Three hundred years later, that invitation is as sincere and enchanting as ever. Good food, warm hospitality and deep comfort are the keystones of everything we do. Savour our famous home made pie and a pint by the fire; discover local specialities on our daily boards. At 70 metres high and with 400 steps to the top this crescent-shaped piece of limestone history is a unique spectacle when standing at the bottom and offers views across the Dales when you’re at the top. You may recognise where you’re standing from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. Watch out for the peregrine falcons during the summer months.
