Exploring the Dales
Located in the heart of Malham
With such an idyllic landscape of rolling hills and charming villages, it’s easy to see why the Yorkshire Dales attract millions of visitors each year.
Malham can be found 11 miles north of the market town of Skipton in the Yorkshire Dales National Park in the North of England.
Here are a few ideas to get you exploring the Dales from your perfect base at The Lister Arms, whatever the season.
Malham Cove
At 70 metres high and with 400 steps to the top this crescent-shaped piece of limestone history is a unique spectacle when standing at the bottom and offers views across the Dales when you’re at the top. You may recognise where you’re standing from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 movie. Watch out for the peregrine falcons during the summer months.

Gordale Scar
A jewel in the Yorkshire Dales National Park crown, this spectacular gorge has inspired famous writers and artists, Wordsworth, Ward and Turner. With limestone cliffs of over 100m high, deep gorges and waterfalls at the heart of the ravine; it certainly is worth a visit.

Janet's Foss
A magical waterfall with fairy tales and clear waters that invite you in. Found in a small wood in the middle of the valley, the foss is a tranquil spot to unwind to the sound of flowing water, or go for a dip to feel the real benefits of the pool.

Malham Tarn
This nature reserve area consists of 147 hectares and is one of the best places to see a natural lime-rich lake, the tarn, in the UK. It’s the highest limestone lake in Britain, and at 380m above sea level, it provides an array of species including the great crested grebe, moorhen, tufted duck and teal.
